I have an Iphone can I get a Photo pass?

This is the biggest nightmare for most photographers. Most “Pros” know how to get a photo pass actually most professional photographers don’t even need to ask for a photo pass they get called in advance from professional managers,Tm and bands.

But it seems that so many people are calling themselves photographers and getting in touch with managers, Tour managers and even directly with bands, to get passes, some bands are giving these passes out without checking who these people are or even asking for a background, if you give away passes you might be giving away a pass you could have giving to a real professional photographer.

How many times you go to a small show or festival *cough* and see kids with photo passes using a shitty camera actually and Iphone or an Ipad to take pictures from the pit? Yes, I know they are some great apps for pictures but non of these kids with an Iphone should EVER be in the barricade, they are just getting in the way of the pros.

Bands please tell your managers to look into who is asking for photo passes or any type of pass. Having 34 kids pretending to be photographer dancing and singing to your set in the barricade does not make you look cool, actually to anyone that is a pro photographer, band , crew even a merch dude/girl will see this and know that your band is an amateur.

So take your passes seriously and avoid making your band look like an amateur, fans please do not say you’re a professional photographer if you dont even have a professional camera.

Love your band, enjoy the show, but stay out of the way of the people that are working and making your favorite bands look good on camera.

This is why I don’t take photo passes when I’ve been offered them. Because I don’t want to be in the way and look stupid, even though I might need one or two good pictures for a review I’m writing. I’d rather get it a different way, like contacting a legit photographer that would love the experience or you know is already going to be there. It’s good exposure if they’re trying to build a portfolio to team up and pair their pictures (with proper credit of course) with your article, etc.
